Meet the Artist
Artist Background
Jack Burns was born and raised in Minnesota. He later lived in Tucson, Arizona and it was there he first showed his work in a gallery. In 1982, he accepted a seasonal job at Zion Lodge and the following year as a park ranger with the National Park Service at Zion. He retired from the National Park Service after a 36-year career. His work is in private collections in the United States and Europe. He is a resident of Springdale, Utah.
I enjoy exploring the abstraction of realism and the Southern Utah landscape lends itself nicely to that. Each painting presents a challenge to capture a moment, experience or feeling. I think it is important to recognize when a painting is pulling itself in a direction all its own and letting it happen. That for me is the beauty and spirit of the creative process.
Inspiration
Living in the red rock canyon country of Southern Utah, Jack draws inspiration from the place he calls home - Springdale, Utah and from his own backyard with views of Zion National Park. He enjoys camping and time exploring remote areas and backroads of Utah, Arizona and Nevada.
